July 23, 2007And yet another obligatory Harry Potter post…
As some of you may have noticed, I virtually dropped off the face of the internet this past weekend, and yes–it's all because of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, the seventh and final book of the popular series.
Saturday morning I finished the reading the final chapters of Half-Blood Prince, which I read every night, starting Wednesday last week, after coming home from work. Then I went to Power Books Megamall to buy myself a copy of Deathly Hallows, after which I met up with KC to grab some lunch before he went to bowling class. After that I bought some grocery items, and then, finally, headed back home. Because I spent most of Saturday afternoon sleeping, plus the fact that I tend to read books slowly and repeat paragraphs more than once (sometimes because I feel like I've spaced out while reading or something), I only got to finish about a third of the book.
The next day, I practically spent the entire day reading. That is, if I weren't taking a bath, eating, or taking a few hours nap. I managed to finish the book between midnight and 1am Monday. (Yeah, I told you I'm really slow. XD)
Anyway, random thoughts about the book. (Finally.)
*SPOILERS AHEAD*
1. I thoroughly enjoyed it! The first few chapters were kind of slow but once the book picked up in later chapters, OH EM GEE. One revelation after the other… wow! It felt as if I just went up a hundred flights of stairs!
2. The deaths! I don't think I've ever cried for a character before. No, I didn't cry for Fred, but I did for Dobby! "Here lies Dobby, a free elf." *bawls!* Jo Rowling was just murderous in this one. 50+ dead! Plus an owl! Poor Hedwig.
3. Ron punching Draco. Ah, priceless. Gotta love it.
4. Ron finally landing a wet one on Hermione! In front of Harry, no less! HAHA! That was a treat.
5. So… Snape. Tragic hero or pure evil? Tragic hero! Well, okay. Fine. As it turned out, he was foolishly in love with Lily and then he had always cared for Harry, played double agent for Dumbledore and Voldemort (Taboo!), and in the end, got himself killed, but not without making eye sex with Harry's Lily-eyes first. Hmm. But you've got to give the guy more than just props. I mean, he's kind of like the unsung hero, isn't he? Ah, well. He got the second name mention in the epilogue, right? "Albus Severus". Poor kid.
6. Epilogue! 10++ on the keso scale. Taena. Hahaha! Sorry, can't help it. It's probably the worst part of the book for me. It just didn't mesh well with the rest of the book. But then again, KC said most epilogues are cheesy and maybe it was a particularly cheesy day when JKR wrote the epilogue years ago. XD Bookworms? Any thoughts?
7. Neville! He really matured in this one. Leader of D.A., going against the Carrows, killing Nagini! Ooh, respect.
8. You know, I'm kind of liking the Harry/Luna ship. Dean/Luna was sorta out of left field, no? Harry/Ginny, though… Boring. Even as parents they seemed boring… Daddy Ron, FTW!
9. That graveyard scene at Godric's Hollow was just… *sniff* And the memorial for the Potters, their old house left as it was and the messages the folks left for Harry, that was touching.
10. Harry survived the Killing Curse twice now, right? What a "magical little boy". XD
*END OF SPOILERS*
There's lots more to talk about this fantastic book, but I'm afraid I'm getting lazy now and I kinda want to hit the sack early tonight. So that's it. Goonight!
HP and the Balikbayan
July 17, 2007Ah, the obligatory Harry Potter post…
OK, so I'm gonna make this short, because I'm a little sleepy and I probably share the same sentiments as the majority of the intornetz, anyway…
OoTP wasn't that great, but I still had fun watching it. It's a good enough transition movie, but by itself, it's kind of meh.
End of review. XD
Thanks to Gef and Jireuvi for taking me along with them to Power Plant to see it, for that dee-lish dinner at Grams Diner, and for ordering that bad ass beer tower thingy.
Deathly Hallows comes out this Saturday! I didn't reserve a copy anywhere because I just know that there'd be a lot of extra, unreserved copies for sale over at Power Books or National Bookstore.
And yes, I already reserved my entire weekend for this book. >:)
* * *
Dinner with Balikbayan Boker and the office folks. Didn't get to take pictures because I was too busy killing crab and mussels.
As expected, lots of teasing while he was at the office (he brought cookies and chocolates for everyone). It was just funny how everyone said almost the exact same thing to me. They were all variations one of the following: 1) "Boker's here" *knowing look and grin*, 2) "Thank you for the chocolates, Cami" (yeah as if I bought them. I don't even think Boker was thanked properly by some. For shame, people!
), and 3) "Oh look at that smile–you're so excited to see him!" (Actually, I was just grinning because I got two exact same comments at the same time. XD).
At the end of it all, I felt kind of sleepy. I suppose I got bored of it. Somehow, it just felt as if somebody told me a joke 10 times in a row. Heheh. Ah, well. Even if the Cami-Boker saga had ended nearly a year ago, I guess it's not gonna be put to rest until our friends have exhausted every single joke that can be said about our then-relationship.
…
Bah! Anyway…
Boker — thanks for dinner, cookies and chocolates, and the mini Swiss knife! Welcome back to da Pilipins!

1-18-08 and Ethan Haas are not related!
July 12, 2007That is, according to JJ Abrams (Lost, Alias, MI:3).
Hmm, now I'm curious… What are those other sites JJ was talking about?! Aaaagh!
No biggie, because! — He's still directing that monster movie, Cloverfield, or whatever the heck it's called. Oh and he's going to direct Star Trek, too, and it's coming out Christmas 2008. Busy man.

Voltron is still a go! Yay!
"From days of long ago, from uncharted regions of the universe, comes a legend. The legend of Voltron: Defender of the Universe!"
* * *
I've finally gotten around to doing that Ethan Haas puzzle. I cheated. Haha! I looked for walkthroughs all over the net. XD And according to the article on Wikipedia, some guy named Wraith said that it might be a promotional gig done by Mind Storm Labs to promote their flagship RPG project called Alpha Omega. And I think he's right! The image on the MSL site is repeated three or four times in the background of EHWR.com! XD So cool.

Alright, that's enough. Me gonna go watch Dead Poets Society now. Carpeee dieeeem!
Who is Ethan Haas?

According to the description on YouTube:
Three official sites for the movie have been discovered (see links above), one of which includes a set of five games you have to complete in order to get a key word needed for an event that will happen on August 1st.
Let the speculations begin… XD

July 6, 2007My hands are just about ready to detach themselves from the rest of my arms. I assembled my desk and chair last night and it took me about two hours to finish.
I am such a rockstar.
