Good Food, Bad Table
October 10, 2006So we just had dinner. The food was great. We had chicken noodle soup, breaded pork steaks, rice, mashed potatoes, and some veggies. For dessert, Ate Epie made baklava.
The sad thing about tonight’s dinner was that as soon as all six of us sat down around the table, I immediately felt this tension. I don’t know why, but every time Kuya Mike sat with us at the table (usually he eats in his room or in front of the TV), I feel like something bad is gonna come down. It rarely happens but tonight it did.
It’s been more than half an hour since dinner ended, and they’re all still at it. They all go into this spiel saying one should’ve done this, one should never do that, “but mom…!”, rules are getting bent, rules are not being followed, “but mom…!”, and all that crap. Most of it isn’t any of my business, so I stay out of it. I know my rules and boundaries in the house and I need not be reminded. I’m glad they leave me alone when it comes to that. More often than not, when they all start bickering and shit, I just cover my ears and hum to myself. I’ve heard the same speeches for the 50 billionth time, and I think I’ve had enough of their bickering.
It can’t be helped to witness these things and know what I know because I live with these people. That’s why I miss living alone. Sure, living with family has its perks and joys, but nothing compares to living on your own, creating your own rules, being yourself in your own space, and doing what you want. I guess that’s the trade-off for some of the decisions I had to make for the past few months… I’m just hoping that it’s temporary.
Anyway, I’m so full. I wonder what’s in store for us tomorrow. Living in this house, you’ll never know. I just keep on guessing. I suppose it’s one of the “good” things about living here. It’s kiiind of exciting, but not really. But it definitely keeps me on my toes. I hate screwing up, especially here. So far I have a nigh-perfect record and I’m not about to fuck that up.
